NATHAN Ferguson is confident he can ‘add a lot’ to Southend United.

The 25-year-old midfielder has now completed his switch to the Shrimpers from Crawley Town.

And Ferguson, who has signed an 18 month deal with the option of a further year, feels he will be able to boost the bottom of the table Blues as they bid to beat the drop.

"I think I can add a lot to the team,” said Ferguson.

“Nobody likes losing and like anyone I want to be winning games.

“I want to help the team get some wins and move up the table.

Ferguson had been due to complete the move last week, only for a positive coronavirus test to delay the deal.

But he is thrilled to now have completed the move.

"I’m very happy to be here and I want to get back playing football again,” said Ferguson.

"It was very frustrating the deal couldn’t get done last week.

“I had to sit at home and bide my time but I’m happy to be here now and get the move completed.

“I want to help the club get up the table.”

Ferguson will go straight into the Shrimpers for Saturday’s trip to Port Vale and is keen to make an immediate impression.

"I like to break forward, get involved in scoring goal and get assists,” said Ferguson.

“I’m quite strong and I like to get about the pitch but I feel like I should be scoring more goals to be honest.

"It’s an important step in my career and I just want to get going now."

Ferguson will boost the options of boss Mark Molesley in midfield.

And Molesley is certain Ferguson will be a good addition.

"He’s got all the attributes for a midfielder,” said Molesley, “He’s athletic, he’s strong, he’s powerful but he’s technically very good as well.

"The good thing is there’s still lots of areas we can enhance that talent as well, so I think he’s got potential to get better.

“He adds lots of competition and depth to that midfield.

"We feel like we’re getting a good player at a good time in his career for Southend United football club and we’re looking forward to going to working with him."
