EXPERIENCED duo Jay Simpson and Ricky Holmes have both been training with Southend United, Echosport understands.
Boyhood Blues fan Holmes has been without a club since leaving Northampton in January and told the Echo last month he would jump at the chance to join his hometown club.
Holmes, who was in the Shrimpers’ youth system at the start of his career, has gone on to make 320 senior appearances, scoring 60 goals.
The 33-year-old winger is now training at Blues alongside former Leyton Orient striker Simpson.
The 32-year-old has also lined up for Millwall, QPR and Hull City during his career which has seen him play in both the USA and Cyprus.
Simpson has 82 career goals to his name.
