SOUTHEND United fans have their say on Tuesday night's 1-0 win at Newport County.

So pleasing to see us play with a bit of bottle! Especially coming off the back of that result against Vale. So much work to do but there’s everything to play for. Survival is a possibility if we keep this belief.

@TimBlore1

Excellent result on a terrible pitch. Clifford and Hobson were terrific and Akinola made a real impact off the bench. Newport did not look like a play off placed team. Hopefully the start of another unbeaten run!

@Strutty27

Clifford MOTM, has to stay in the team now and if Hart is to play its further forward! Thought MM got the game plan spot on and Akinola changed the game off the bench but desperately need some support for him. Fingers crossed on free agents! Could and should have been more too!

@wheeliosmaximus

After conceding eight in the last two games it is nice to see a clean sheet! Great result but still not convinced that we’ll stay up.

@seasider_paul

A poor game but three great points. The formation and keeping Akinola back for impact worked. Oxley, Clifford and White all outstanding

@cjblues2505

Forgettable first half, usual first 10mins of second half worry, and then we went after the game. Great goal from the birthday boy, great save from Oxley, slightly twitchy bum for the last five mins.

@SteveShelsher

Big and unexpected win. Gives a fighting chance, we’ve just got to take it and get a bit of luck along the way!

@mattysufc

First half was awful but we got the win that’s all that matters. Hopefully we can build on this and survival is still a huge possibility which we weren’t saying at the start of the season

@JukeBox2001

A hard thought but well deserved three points. It wasn’t a spectacle but who cares, it’s a win that moves us off the bottom. It’s a small step in the right direction.

@rajdstubbs

What a win. The pitch was appalling and I bet it was baltic out there. They worked their socks off in that second half and deserved the luck. Big props to Oxley for the massive save at the end too - unbelievable Geoff

@Ljarvis27

Great result after a bad few weeks. To put into perspective, we’ve only had a couple of poor weeks since the end of November. No coincidence that the return to four at the back played a massive part too. Happy birthday Mr Clifford. Bring on Saturday...

@ScottyBarber12

Game lacking in quality but all that mattered was the result. Akinola coming on made a difference and Blues started to look more dangerous. Had good opportunities before Clifford made it count. Great save from Oxley at the end.

@thedove01

Great defensively first half and midfield worked hard but we looked lost when entering the final third. Sim coming on changed the game, gave us energy and athleticism up top. Clifford, JD, Dieng White and Oxley outstanding that save at the end could be vital come May. We can stay up.

@KetchleyShane

Great win. Needed win. Good result after a bad run, against a tough team, playing in a sand pit.

@PJDW3

Great result and well done to the team for an unexpected three points. But it’s only one game. We have 19 cup finals left and will need to win at least half of them to stay up. That’s a very tall order especially with few forward options meaning we struggle to score even one goal a game

@tommyharris57

We are in big trouble. We are running out of games. Not MM’s fault despite what the moaners say. Rot is deep. Frustrating that given more time I think MM would’ve been able to patch things up and then start building something without having to get us back in the League.

@rootshall1992

Back four in December and we win, back three/four in January and we were awful. Back four in February and we win, now could there be a theme here!?!?!

@mikehogg321

Clifford and Oxley are heroes... this could be the start of a GREAT escape!!

@Sufcjp1

Ground out a great result on an awful pitch - few scary moments but four at the back the way forward. Much better second half especially when Sim came on and the wide men pushed further up.

@AndrewHackling

It was not pretty to watch played on a difficult surface but MM's tactics were spot on. A bit more belief and the newer players beginning to gel hopefully a starting eleven will begin to name itself.

@phillsilver9

Unexpected three points picked up. Return to four at the back, maybe this could be the impetus to kick on again. Just hope this isn’t another false dawn.

@Brad_Rowe_23

Clifford man of the match, wasn't scared to commit to challenges, cleared everything that came his was put his body on the line and deserved the goal!

@lillatimer

Dreadful game and we only perked up when Sim replaced Halford who really isn’t an asset up front. But we managed to grind out the win.

@BryanGOBsmacked

Great result tonight but it was criminal to lose as many games as we did after December and I think that was our best chance of pushing on. Barrow with two games in hand could make for a grim looking league table.

@tfinch1993

Back four great and Sim made a big difference when he came on. Happy Birthday Tom and great 100th game Tim.
