RICKY Duncan’s role has been expanded at Southend United.

Duncan remains the academy manager at Roots Hall.

But Blues chairman Ron Martin has revealed Duncan is now also playing a part in the first team set-up.

“Ricky Duncan’s role has been expanded and he is to shadow all signings, not just with the academy but also at senior level now,” said Martin.

“It means I have a further view, although the final decision rests with the manager”

The Shrimpers are still fighting to stay in League Two but Martin feels improvements have been made.

“We’ve got to a better platform now as we have been rebuilding throughout the season following the departure of many players throughout last year," said Martin.

"If we can survive this year the management team will be well placed next year to continue the rebuilding.Expoa

“We’ve had a better period of stability on the pitch but it’s taken us a longer than we all would have wished to achieve that. “
