SOUTHEND United manager Mark Molesley is confident his side can score the goals they need to secure survival this season.

The Shrimpers have hit the back of the net just 18 times in 29 League Two outings so far this term.

But Molesley feels Blues, who sit 22nd in the table, are capable of scoring more regularly.

“We work with these players every day in training and we have some skilful players who are good technicians,” said Molesley.

“It’s probably about confidence and belief in that final third now.

“As soon as we get those breakthrough moments hopefully it will be a catalyst for the confidence to flow more and we can make more of the opportunities.

“But we have to be in the games to be able to make the most of those opportunities and we’re doing that now.

“It’s giving us a platform to build on but that’s the next bit which needs to be sorted and it needs to be sorted quickly.

“I feel we certainly have the right players and the right blends to do that.

“The competition for places is fiercer now too.

“We’ve got a range of ways we can attack and a range of different options.

“We’ve got hopefully all that we need in our armoury to make more of our opportunities now too.”
