SUNDERLAND legend Kevin Phillips is backing Nathan Ferguson’s screaming shot at Forest Green Rovers to be named goal of the season.

The Shrimpers midfielder netted a stunning long range effort in the 3-1 win at the New Lawn.

And Phillips, a pundit on Quest TV, could not speak highly enough about the strike which has already been viewed more than 600,000 times on social media.

“For me it will be goal of the season but if it doesn’t go in your own players would be turning round asking what you’re doing,” said Phillips, who scored 277 goals in his own career.

“You’ve got no right to shoot from there.

“This player will not get tired of watching this goal, even when he’s our age.

“He must be about 45 yards out.”
