SOUTHEND United striker Nile Ranger is available for tomorrow’s clash with Salford City at Roots Hall.

The 29-year-old has not played professionally since leaving the Shrimpers in January 2018.

But Blues boss Mark Molesley has now confirmed Ranger is pushing for a place in his squad this weekend.

“Nile Ranger is up for selection now,” said Molesley.

“He’s had a good week of training.

“He had a rest day yesterday along with everyone else and was back in training today.

“He’s worked hard and he’s ready for selection if needed.”

Ranger has endured a controversial career and has often hit the headlines for the wrong reasons.

But Molesley has enjoyed working with the striker who came in to the Shrimpers to train before being offered a deal.

“I have nothing but good things to say about Nile,” said Molesley.

“I always treat people the way I find them and he’s a been a breath of fresh air.

“His character is actually very endearing but he knows how he’s got to work and what he’s got to do to impress us and get in the team.

“After being out for three years you’ve got to work hard to get into any kind of shape to even get on for five minutes.

“But the fact he’s worked hard shows that he wants it.”

However, Molesley is keen for Ranger to keep making the most of the opportunity.

“He’s got to do a lot more but he’s earnt himself a chance and opportunity to stake a claim,” said Molesley.

“It’s up to him if he wants to take it or not.

“But I enjoy working with him every day and if I didn’t I wouldn’t have pushed for him.

“He had to work hard and be a joy to work with because I wouldn’t just throw anyone into the group.

“Nile’s well documented and sometimes that can be disruptive but that’s not the case.

“If it was then things would cease to work.

“But I’m very excited at having him ready to be playing if selected.”

Ranger netted 10 goals in 49 games during his first spell with Blues.
