ECHOSPORT talks to Salford City fan Andy Thurston ahead of tomorrow's match with Southend United.

Salford are currently eighth in the table. What have you made of the season so far?

"Its a weird one. Without stating the obvious about Covid, nobody is grabbing this League or being consistent enough to nail down a title challenge."

Salford have not been beaten at home this season but have lost eight times away. Why do you feel there is such a difference?

"Neither have been great to be fair. Granted we're unbeaten at home but there have been too many draws. Our heads fall clean off in the last 10 minutes of games but we can't blame the fans thats for sure."

What are the hopes for the remainder of the season?

"Promotion, if we don't get promoted it will go down as a failure. I don't say that through arrogance it's purely down to the players we've brought in, the investment in squad and changing of the manager so early in the season."

Who would you say is the dangerman for Salford?

"The signing of Gotts on loan from Leeds as been a game changer in midfield for us."

There must still be a buzz around the club with all the Manchester United legends you have as owners?

"Not so much of a buzz recently again for obvious reasons but having the owners we have has catapulted the club into the limelight positively as far as Salford is concerned but not so positively for the old boys club who don't like newbies taking their players."

What's the team news for Saturday?

"Unchanged from midweek. We were superb for the first 85 minutes."
