SOUTHEND United manager Mark Molesley has yet to discover the full extent of the injury which cut short Alex Bass’ debut.

The on loan Portsmouth goalkeeper had to be taken off at half-time against Salford City at Roots Hall.

But Molesley was impressed by how Bass performed during his first 45 minutes in a Shrimpers shirt.

“It was a great debut from Alex,” said Molesley.

“He looked very assured and calm so we will have to see how bad his injury is.

“He was upended twice and didn’t get the protection we felt he deserved and that’s culminated in him coming off.

“He got hit and then landed awkwardly as well but it’s more a lower limb injury than a dead leg.”

But further investigations will now be carried out.

“Alex will be x-rayed and scanned,” said Molesley.

“The concern is there’s a previous injury and maybe it might be something similar.

“But between Portsmouth and ourselves we will get to the bottom of it and then decide where we go from there.”
