SOUTHEND United striker Nile Ranger will have a scan on his injured groin today.

Ranger's Shrimpers comeback lasted just 11 minutes against Salford City on Saturday.

But Blues boss Mark Molesley is hopeful Ranger will soon be back in action.

"Nile's gone for a scan today and we’re hoping it’s a low grade one injury which would keep him out for a week to 10 days," said Molesley.

"It was really disappointing for him and us as well because the short time he was on he showed what he’s about.

"But unfortunately he slightly slipped when defending a corner and overstretched his groin.

"These things happen and they happen even more to players who have been out a while."

Ranger had not played professionally since leaving the Shrimpers in January 2018.

And Molesley always knew it would be tough for the 29-year-old forward to get back up to speed.

"It was never going to be a straightforward road for Nile," said Molesley.

"It was always going to be one with some speed bumps in as we look to iron out the creases.

"Hopefully it’s only a small issue we can get on top off quite quickly because I believe he will be of great value to us."
