SOUTHEND United manager Mark Molesley felt goalkeeper James Montgomery enjoyed an assured debut for the Shrimpers.
The shot-stopper went straight into the starting line-up against Cheltenham Town just hours after signing on loan from Gateshead.
And Molesley was pleased with Montgomery's performance.
"I was really pleased with him," said Molesley.
"Considering we only met him pre-match a few hours ago he looked very assured.
"He handled the occasion well as he’s turned up without even knowing anyone’s names.
"We defended well in front of him and it was agonising to be beaten by a penalty."
Montgomery was the fourth goalkeeper the Shrimpers have used in the last four games following injuries to both Mark Oxley and Alex Bass.
