SOUTHEND United manager Mark Molesley insisted he would have been more concerned had the Shrimpers not created chances against Oldham Athletic.

Blues drew 0-0 at Boundary Park as they failed to score for the third game in succession.

But Molesley was pleased to see his side carving out opportunities.

“It would worry me more if we came here and we weren’t creating the chances,” stressed Molesley.

“But we have to keep believing and keep working hard.

“We have to keep putting ourselves in these situations in training and try to improve and there’s no better chance than on Tuesday.

“Things can change very quickly and we’re in control of that so we can’t get too down.

“It’s a frustrated and a disappointed dressing room in there but we were solid and we created chances too.

“We have to pick ourselves up now and iron out the creases on Tuesday.”

Blues, who host Tranmere at Roots Hall on Tuesday, failed to convert a number of clear cut chances with Emile Acquah wasting three good opportunities.

But Molesley felt the young striker could have won a penalty in the second half.

“Emile is an inch away when he hit the bar and I thought he was fouled on the follow up,” said Molesley.

“He got a shove in the back but I’d need to see it again really.

“I’m shooting from the hip a little bit at the moment on it but it’s a potential penalty.

“The other header is in unfortunately in the centre of the goal and anywhere else it was a goal.

“He’s up there winning his headers though and all we can ask is we keep getting into those positions and we keep delivering quality balls.

“The more you do that then the more chance you’ve got to score.”

However, Blues now find themselves back in the relegation zone but Molesley is not sure it that will make a psychological difference to his players.

“It depends what you make of it,” said Molesley.

“Sometimes you’ve got to use it as fuel for your fire again.

“We’ve been pegged back and it’s up to us.

“We need to win games of football and we’re the masters of our own destiny.”
