ON LOAN Southend United defender Tyler Cordner was devastated by Saturday's 0-0 draw at Oldham Athletic.

The centre-back, who is with Blues from Bournemouth, helped Mark Molesley's side secure a clean sheet at Boundary Park.

But the 22-year-old was frustrated that it only secured a share of the spoils for the Shrimpers.

"It’s very disappointing and everyone was devastated in there," said Cordner.

"We feel like it’s two points dropped.

"We had the better chances and I’m not sure they really had any clear cut chances other than maybe one header from a cross which we should have dealt with better.

"But we’ve hit the bar and had the better chances. On another day they go in and we win 2-0 or 3-0.

"We’re devastated because it’s the type of team we need to be picking up points against but we’ve got to bounce back."

The draw saw Blues slip back into the relegation zone after relegation rivals Barrow beat Mansfield Town.

And Cordner, who has come back into the starting line-up for the last two games, knows the Shrimpers must start to offer more going forward if they are to stay up.

"Since Port Vale away, which was a big turning point for us, we’ve been solid but we just haven’t scored enough goals," said Cordner.

"It’s really disappointing because we’ve done a lot of work on it but it hasn’t really come out on a match day yet.

"There are still games left but before you know it there will only be a few left and we’ve got to win all of them.

"Games like this we have to get points in and it’s a big two points missed."

Blues, who are below Barrow on goal difference, will now be bidding to bounce back against Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday night.

And Cordner feels the Shrimpers may need to start taking more risks.

“I’m sure we will have another solid game but we’ve got to go into games and be more aggressive,” said the defender.

“We can’t be on the back foot, we’ve got to go and win games.

“You’d rather have a go and lose 2-0 in the circumstances against a big team rather than sit back and take a 0-0 again.

“We’ve got to go and get results now, that’s the main thing.

“It’s massive on Tuesday now.

“Tranmere are a good side. I played against them with Scunthorpe earlier this season and they have an attacking threat.”

Tranmere sit fifth in the standings but Cordner will again be ready to face them if called upon.

“I’m ready whenever I need to be ready and that’s all I can do,” said Cordner, who had been on the bench for five games before his recent recall.

“Elvis (Bwomono) got injured and he’s had back issues so I knew there would be a time I could be needed so I had to keep on top of my fitness.

“I’ve been doing everything right in training and I feel like I’ve done well since I’ve come back in.”
