JAY Simpson is no longer training at Southend United.

The former Leyton Orient forward had been in with Blues at their Boots & Laces base.

But Shrimpers boss Mark Molesley has confirmed Simpson is no longer coming in.

"He’s not training with us," said Molesley.

"We had Nile Ranger fit and available but unfortunately that’s not the case now.

"We’ve got a few others chomping at the bit and some who are a 23s game away from being available again.

"We still have very good players around us but if we were to lose one or lose a little bit of form we might revisit it.

"But at the moment with the games coming thick and fast we can’t allow ourselves to get too distracted."

The Shrimpers, who are 23rd in League Two, host Tranmere Rovers at Roots Hall on Tuesday night.

And Molesley is firmly focused on the game.

"Our focus is on the game after such a quick turnaround," said Molesley.

"We’re training and preparing and nothing was going to happen before Tuesday so we’re focusing on the task in hand.

"We will see what Tuesday brings and football can change quickly.

"It’s a good opportunity for people to stake a claim and for us to get three points.

"We will take stock after Tuesday’s game and see the health of the group."
