SOUTHEND United chairman Ron Martin has told Mark Molesley he will still be the Shrimpers manager at the end of the season, however it may end.

Blues are currently second from bottom in League Two with nine games to go.

But Martin has told Molesley his job is safe as he bids to avoid relegation.

“Last night I told the manager I wouldn’t be dismissing him and he will be here at the end of the season, as will all his staff,” said Martin.

“He needs to have that support to have the confidence to instil in the players.

“No one should be disrupting him at this moment and I have no intention of sacking Mark.

“We need stability in the club and in the management.”

Molesley was appointed Blues boss at the start of the season.

And, speaking on a Zoom call facilitated by the Shrimpers Trust to a selection of Southend fan groups, Martin admitted to being impressed by the 40-year-old.

“He’s a very honest and good person to have around,” said Martin.

“Every footballer needs a manager they can trust.

“The minute they don’t trust the manager they tend to down tools a bit.

“If the manager tells them something then doesn’t follow it through then they won’t work for him.”

And Martin also dismissed suggestions Molesley’s lack of experience was a problem.

“Some might say he’s young and inexperienced and that may be true but he’s been in football all of his life,” said Martin.

“I think his man management is very good.

“I spoke to Eddie Howe about him and he told me I wouldn’t get a more honest person.”
