ECHOSPORT talks to Crawley Town fan Reuben Watt ahead of tomorrow's match at Roots Hall.

What have you made of the season so far?

"If someone had told us that we’d make a £1million in profit, getting into the fourth round of the FA Cup, beating Leeds 3-0 and stayed away from a relegation battle then I would’ve bitten their hand off.

"Up until the end of January, we had a great season. However, Covid then struck the Crawley camp and since then we have really struggled to get a win and any slight chances of the play-offs have well and truly gone.

"I was never one to even mention the chance to get into the play offs but there were a few fans who got excited about the prospect but are now very disappointed.

"Considering we are always favourites for relegation, we can’t complain!"

What were the expectations before the season got underway and what are the targets for the rest of the campaign now?

"Our manager's aim was to always stay in the League and for us to have a club by the end of the season and anything more than that was a bonus.

"Just 10 years ago we had never stepped foot in the Football League and we, the fans, now describe us as an established Football League club although, I should imagine, there are many fans of other clubs who see Crawley as that “small club by Gatwick airport”.

"In the last month or so we need to start winning and to try and push into the top half of the table.

"It would also be great to see some more of our youngsters playing and getting experience ahead of next season."

The recent form has not been so good. Why do you feel that is?

"We have been rocky since we got Covid and I don’t think some of the players have really recovered.

"We also sold Max Watters for around £1million and have struggled to score ever since."

Crawley have a few ex Southend players. How have Glenn Morris, Josh Wright and Mark Wright been doing?

"Glenn Morris has been excellent. This season he has maybe made a few more mistakes than in previous seasons but has still saved us more times than I can count.

"With Josh Wright many fans think he has been a disappointment and has almost disrupted our midfield pairing.

"Mark Wright is a funny one as since leaving Southend, his career took a bit of turn and he ended up in show business.

"He came on as a sub against Leeds and started in another match.

"He hasn’t been seen since due to injury. I really want him to do well for the club and his career while there are other fans who do not."

Who would you say are the dangermen?

"Tom Nichol has to be up there.

"He has scored around 15 goals this season and will hopefully be able to add three or four more before the end of the season.

"He was rumoured to be going to Sunderland back in January but that never happened."

What’s the team news for the weekend?

"We have had a few players out recently. Reece Grego-Cox and Tom Dallison are unavailable.

"We also have 2 other defenders (Mark Wright and captain George Francomb) who are doubts, so defensively it is worrying!"
