LEE Bradbury is saddened by Southend United’s struggles this season – but that will not stop him looking to add to them on Saturday.

The former Shrimpers striker is now assistant head coach with Crawley Town who visit Roots Hall this weekend.

And Bradbury is eager to help Town get back to winning ways after enduring their own recent run of indifferent results.

“You don’t look to see any of your old clubs struggling and I have some great memories with Southend but we wouldn’t be doing our jobs if we went into a game feeling for anyone,” said the 45-year-old.

“We owe to it every team in the league and to ourselves to win as many games as possible.

“We’re going to Roots Hall looking to try and win the game.

“We know Southend can be a tough side to crack on their day but they haven’t quite had the consistency this season.”

The Shrimpers are currently second from bottom in the League Two standings, with just six games to go.

And Bradbury is looking forward to facing his former side.

“It will be nice to come back,” said Bradbury, who scored nine goals in 52 with the Shrimpers.

“I haven’t been back there in a while and it will bring back some good memories.

“We won League One and got to the Championship so it was an excellent time.”

But Bradbury is now firmly focused on Crawley, who are currently 14th in the table.

“We’ve had some great times this season, beating Leeds and Wimbledon in the FA Cup, we’ve sold Max Watters and had a good cup run,” said Bradbury.

“We’re mid-table in the League but we think we can do a bit better than we have.

“We haven’t done well enough against the teams in and around us.

“That’s something we want to put right, starting with Southend.”
