SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown does not expect Jacob Mellis to play again this season.
The 30-year-old midfielder has made three substitute appearances since signing from Gillingham on transfer deadline day.
But Brown feels Mellis, who has a knee problem, will not be fit enough to feature in Blues' remaining five matches.
"Jacob is still injured," said Brown.
"He’s not available to me and I don’t think he will be available to me between now and the end of the season.
"I’ve not seen any of him other than him lying on a treatment table unfortunately."
