SOUTHEND United chairman Ron Martin is keen for Phil Brown to stay as Blues boss beyond the end of this season.

Brown has returned to Roots Hall in a bid to stop the Shrimpers suffering relegation from League Two.

But Martin would like the 61-year-old to remain in the hot-seat however the campaign ends.

“I would like to think Phil would stay beyond this season, wherever we are,” Martin told the Guardian.

“We’ve talked about that at some length.

"Southend does mean something to Phil.

"His wife and family come from Southend, so the town means something and he was here for five years.

"There’s a good connection."

Brown drew 0-0 with Crawley Town in his first game back as Blues boss on Saturday and takes his side to Exeter City this weekend.
