SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown heaped praise on goalkeeper Mark Oxley following his side’s 0-0 draw at Exeter City.

Oxley made a stunning late save to stop Nigel Atanagan scoring.

And Brown felt the Shrimpers shot-stopper again showed why he should be playing at a higher level.

“I was the man who brought Ox in and I’ve always said he should have played at a higher level,” said Brown.

“If I was managing a Championship club or League One I’d think about taking Ox.

“You hang on to your star man but he would’ve been going through it being the last man in the defence.

“He will look at the League table and hold himself personally responsible because that’s the type of person he is.

“It’s the same with Jason Demetriou who was absolutely outstanding out there.”
