SOUTHEND United now sit six points behind relegation rivals Colchester United after the U's fought back to beat Walsall 2-1 tonight.
Second from bottom Blues drew 0-0 at Exeter City this afternoon and Colchester, who sit just above the drop zone, were able to move further away from their Essex rivals with a hard fought win at the Community Stadium.
James Clarke put Walsall ahead in the first half but the U's equalised through Michael Folivi before Ryan Clampin netted what proved to be the winner just before the break.
The U's host Southend at the Community Stadium on Tuesday night but also boast a vastly superior goal difference to Blues.
