SOUTHEND United fans have their say on Tuesday night's 2-0 defeat at local rivals Colchester United.

Quoted as the most important game in the club’s history. The players played it like they were filling in time waiting for a bus. It‘s not about managers, these players and this chairman deserve to go down. As a collective, woefully short of the mark.

@piershewitt

It seems fitting after the last few years to go down with such a whimper. Just pathetic. If Brown stays, needs another clearout to get players with the character to survive in the National League.

@Moorhouse79

‘The biggest game in our history’. The most crucial must win. Zero shots on target.

@TimBlore1

After all the fight and effort we produced on Saturday, I couldn't believe what I saw tonight. Yes we can't score and that has been a problem all season but for no passion from the players in this game was unforgiveable. I turned off after 70 mins. Shambles.

@Strutty27

Dreadful, simply dreadful. Complete absence of heart, determination and guts. Orient will hammer in the nails into our relegation coffin on Saturday.

@KristofShrimper

Last season, to see us surrender our hard earned League One status so easily was a very painful watch. This season, to helplessly watch us surrender our Football League status and bring down the curtain on a 115 years of history is unbearably sad. Where will it end?

@MWelly7

I'm absolutely empty. Three years of apalling planning has led to this. Ron needs to move heaven and earth to get us back where we belong and then make sure this never, ever happens again. At the moment I don't even want to hear from him, it hurts too much.

@fatblokemarge

Considering the circumstances and who we were playing, that has to be one of the worst performances in our history. Hopefully there will be big changes at the club this summer.

@NickLapwood

We’re getting relegated because we haven’t been good enough all season, not just tonight. However, this was described as the biggest game in the club’s history and we didn’t even turn up. We need to start completely from scratch for next season: players, manager and chairman.

@JoePayne_

No player worth keeping, P45 's for every single one and start again, just think even the lowest waged player earns more in a week than we do in a month and they produce that pathetic serving of 'football' to us, their loyal fan base - embarrassed of Essex!

@coubsy

Despite all the pre match hype about this being the biggest derby match ever, we just didn’t turn up. Going down without a fight is what hurts the most and the players owed a performance tonight to our long suffering fans! But ultimately the blame lies with one man. Ron Martin!!

@tommyharris57

Felt nervous all day thinking; you never know, we might actually somehow get out of this. Now though, just feel empty after such a gutless performance. Sums up the last few abysmal seasons. Ron Martin’s miserable shadow over our club.

@tomjguy

Spineless performance never looked like scoring, we haven’t all season we deserve to go down Martin is to blame for most of this he has to go can only see things getting worse before when or if they get better us fans deserve more @AhmedKamba_22

Every year two teams have to be relegated from the Football League. This year it is our turn and I don't think anyone will say that it is undeserved. But look at other teams - Orient went down and came back, Tranmere went down, came back and are now chasing promotion. Hope.

@JohnCoz44

Not enough quality, simple as that. As it has been for too long. So disappointing after the improved performance Saturday. Not even at the races today. Sadly got what we deserved. Is Oxley the only player left we haven't tried sticking up front?

@thedove01

A shamefull pathetic way to end our 100 year stay in the Football League. Once Colchester scored we fell apart. Can't believe how flat we were.

@alanhale212

This game summed up our season perfectly, zero fight, zero effort, zero creativity and zero goals. Losing is one thing but losing without a fight or competitive edge is inexcusable. Absolutely gutted.

@Justin_Dijkstra

Spineless, gutless bunch of wasters. You knew what was riding on this match, let alone what the rivalry means to the fans. And none of you turned up. You gave up. You're lucky we're not allowed in the ground. Special mention to Ron Martin who has destroyed this club.

@jmpschooley

Performance summed up the whole season. No quality in attack. Hopefully better times ahead. Need someone who knows where the goal is and can score instead of just missing.

@iainG81

Ron Martin is totally responsible for our relegation out of the football league. Every decision he has made for the last three years or so has been flawed. He has failed.

@timgriff1977

Honestly just speechless. No fight from any of the players and to make it even worse it's Colchester who have sent us down. Hopefully big changes in all areas of the club over the summer.
