ON LOAN Southend United defender Tyler Cordner is hoping another footballing miracle can help the Shrimpers avoid relegation.

Blues will be relegated if Barrow avoid defeat at Forest Green Rovers tonight.

But Cordner, who scored the first goal in Saturday’s 2-1 win against Leyton Orient, is still keeping his fingers crossed things can work in Phil Brown’s side favour.

“Miracles happen in football and we’re hoping for another one now,” said Cordner.

“We’ve just got to make sure we do everything right our end and I think maybe the pressure is off us a bit now.

“You could see that on Saturday and I think the pressure is all on Barrow now really.”

Second from bottom Blues sit five points behind Barrow, with just two games to go, the first of which comes at Barrow this weekend.

But that clash will mean very little if Barrow avoid defeat this evening.

And Cordner will be tracking how the game goes.

“It’s out of our hands but I will be looking at the scores,” said the 22-year-old.

“We can look at this one game and hope it goes our way but we haven’t been good enough all season really.

“For it to be going down to this isn’t good enough for us and how we’ve performed this year is really disappointing.”

The Shrimpers did keep alive their slight survival hopes with a hard-fought win against Leyton Orient at the weekend.

And Cordner was delighted to end Blues’ five match winless streak.

“The main thing was we got three points because it was obviously a must win game,” said Cordner.

“We’ve got to rely on Barrow but we can only have an effect on what we do and we have to win every game we’ve got left.

“We started that well on Saturday and we’ve got to maintain that drive, desire and heart we showed into the next match against Barrow.”

The victory against Orient also saw Cordner heading home the first League goal of his career.

But the defender was purely focused on picking up the three points.

“I’d not even really thought about it being my first Football League goal, the main thing was getting the win,” said Cordner.

“Of course I was buzzing to score and it was brilliant for Matt Rush to score as well but it wasn’t about me or whoever scored.

“It was all about the getting the points and hoping Barrow slip up.”

Barrow were beaten 1-0 at Tranmere Rovers at the weekend but Blues were able to secure victory in a clash which ended with Cordner moving into midfield.

“The manager was going to put John White in there and I just told him I was feeling fit and fresh so I could do a job in there too if needed,” said Cordnder.

I’ve played there a couple of times for Bournemouth and I’d like to think I’m quite comfortable on the ball.

“I’d do anything for the team so I went there and gave it all I could.”
