ON LOAN Southend United defender Tyler Cordner will be looking for a new club at the end of the season.

Cordner is currently with the Shrimpers from Bournemouth.

But the centre-back has confirmed he will not be staying with the Cherries.

“My deal is up and I haven’t taken on another deal with them so I’m a free agent,” said Cordner.

“I had an extension year but we both decided it would be better for me to go out and get games.

“I’ve been there six or seven years now and I feel like if I was going to make my breakthrough I’d have done it by now.

“It’s a good time for me to move on and carry on trying to get more games.

“I’m still young and hopefully it can be a blessing in disguise.”

Cordner has made 12 appearances since coming to Blues in January.

And, when asked if he would consider staying with the Shrimpers, Cordner said: “I’m not going to lie, I’ve really enjoyed my time at Southend.

“I’ve met some good players and I get on well with all of the lads and staff so I’ve really enjoyed it here.

“We obviously don’t know what’s going to happen with the club and I’m keeping my options open.

“I’ll see how the season pans out and how we finish it up.”

Blues are still fighting to stay up and Cordner remains fully focused on the remaining fixtures.

“I’ll finish the season with Southend and then see what’s in store for me next season,” said Cordner.

“At the moment I’m taking every match as it comes.

“I’m not focusing on anything other than what’s next here because of how big it is for the club.

“My mind is nowhere else other than the next day and then the next game.”

But Cordner did admit he is relishing working with manager Phil Brown who has been back in charge of Blues for the past four games.

“The manager has been brilliant,” said Cordner.

“He’s experienced and he’s been in the game a long time.

“He’s brought in a proper drive to all of the players and a real no-nonsense work ethic.

“There’s been a couple of ifs and buts on the training ground and bombs thrown at each other but it’s good.

“It’s bringing the best out in everyone and he’s changed the mood of some players.

“He’s got us really up for the games too.”
