A SOUTHEND United supporter group has confirmed a protest will take place at Roots Hall before Blues’ final game of the League Two season.

The Shrimpers are now all but relegated from the Football League following Barrow’s 2-0 win at Forest Green tonight.

And the Save Our Southend group will now push ahead with plans to show their frustrations ahead of the match against Newport County at Roots Hall on Saturday May 8.

In a statement the group said: “Now the disastrous inevitably of relegation is upon us (with the caveat of a decent goal swing required) SOS will press ahead with vigour and clarity regarding our plans for a truly ‘United’ show of support for change at our football club…..starting with a protest at Roots Hall for our final Football League match v Newport on Saturday 8th May.

“The fact that our great club is relying on other results and large goal swings to keep our incredibly remote 101 year EFL survival hopes alive is wholly unacceptable.

“It should not have come to this and must never do so again.

“Should the protest coincide with a remarkable final day escape (again) although of course very welcomed this will not change our stance.

“Change is required.

“Further details will follow in due course.”
