SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown will be selecting his strongest possible side against Newport County this weekend.

The Shrimpers go into the game having already been relegated.

But Brown will not be using the match to look at other members of his squad.

"I will be picking the strongest team available to me that has shown up in the past three weeks," said Brown.

"I don’t mean in just games either, I mean in training sessions and in their conduct.

"All of those things will be high on the agenda and not someone who showed up at the start of the season but is possibly not showing up now.

"I’ve got to try and win the game and I won’t be trialing anyone that’s for sure.

"I’ve already had a look at everybody in training and I've listened to them too.

"That’s a big percentage in what you see but it’s also about how they conduct themselves around the place, how they answer questions and listen.

"That all goes into the big pot of selection."

Blues will be without Ricky Holmes this weekend as the winger misses out with a broken ankle while midfielder Jason Demetriou complete a three match suspension after being sent off at Colchester United.

Nathan Ralph (cruciate ligaments), Alan McCormack (calf), Lewis Gard (cruciate ligaments), Harry Lennon (knee) and Nile Ranger (groin) are all still sidelined but left-back Tom Clifford could return after recovering from a thigh problem.
