CRAIG Fagan has been offered the assistant manager role at Southend United.

Fagan finished last season working closely alongside Blues boss Phil Brown.

And Brown would now like Fagan to remain in the first team set-up.

“I’ve got a backroom staff to piece together,” said Brown.

“We’ll be advertising and going public with the role of first team coach.

“One or two of the players have made noises in being interested in that with regards to next year.

“But if Craig Fagan agrees a deal I think assistant manager is a great role for him.

“Going back to my early days, assistant manager roles don’t come round easily or very often so when you get the chance I think you jump at it.

“I’d be delighted if he accepts the role and we go forward together with a first team coach which will announced in due course.

“We will be piecing together that jigsaw.”

Brown also managed Fagan, who had been working as Blues’ under 23 coach, during his spell in charge of Hull City.
