ENGLAND’S over 65 team are in action at Billericay Town’s New Lodge ground today.

The England side take on the Southend Borough Combination Veterans League X1.

And League Secretary Tony Hoskins is looking forward to the clash.

“The league were due to hold a series of events last year to mark its 40 year celebrations,” said Hoskins.

“Sadly, all the events were cancelled due to the Covid pandemic, which was a great pity as there were a lot of preparations made in vain, but this paled into insignificance when you consider the loss of human life.

“We still aim to hold these events at the end of season 2021/22.

“So, this match against the England over 65's has come along at the right time.

“It's been a torrid time for grassroots football and, after the stop start season we have all endured, this game is a fitting way to sign off this season.”
