WEYMOUTH remain tight-lipped on potential interest in former Southend United striker Brandon Goodship.

Blues this week released the 26-year-old striker, who signed from the Terras in 2019, ending a two-year stay at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Goodship netted 77 goals in a highly-successful stint at Weymouth, including promotion to the National League South as Southern League champions.

But the step up to League football proved less fruitful, yielding six goals in 60 games across all competitions.

On the availability of Goodship, Weymouth manager Brian Stock gave little away.

He told the Dorset Echo: “Brandon’s a great player, I know Brandon very well personally but I would never discuss that.

“Brandon’s got to decide his own future.”

“Brandon’s actually worked for my academy, he’s coached with me before.

“He’s a fantastic lad and he’s a good player."

Weymouth chairman Ian White revealed there has so far been no contact between the club and Goodship.

However, White hinted financing any theoretical deal would prove an obstacle.

Quizzed on whether he would welcome Goodship back, White said: “That’s a no-brainer, of course we would.

“As Brian has said, it’s for Brandon to decide what he wants to do.

“The biggest thing is finance and at the moment Brandon could still play in (League) Two so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

“We’re not looking at that, at the moment.

“If you could get him and some business out there wants to pay thousands to bring him here, then maybe.”
