SOUTHEND United are ‘edging closer’ to agreeing new deals with two of their out of contract players.

Timothee Dieng, Jason Demetriou, Elvis Bwomono, Sam Hart and Ricky Holmes are all out of contract at Roots Hall this summer along with Mark Oxley who is expected to move on.

But Blues boss Phil Brown confirmed some of the players are closing to signing than others.

“We’re nudging closer with two of them but one is a million miles away,” said Brown.

“Some of them seem to have not realised we’ve gone down I don’t think.

“We’ve had back to back relegations and they’re wanting more money but that will just not happen.

“It will not happen at all. “
