A FIVE-A-SIDE football tournament raised close to £1,500 for SECE Mind at Garon Park.

The event, which was organised by mental health support group Run Free, saw 20 teams battling it out at the end of men’s health week.

But it was Team Tilly – who included Southend United legends Adam Barrett and Steve Tilson in their side – who got their hands on the Run Free Charity Cup after more than four hours of fun-filled action.

Run Free were formed last year to provide sport and support to those suffering from mental health issues.

And co-founder Chris Phillips, who is also a trustee for SECE Mind, was delighted with how the day went.

“It was a great day and it was brilliant to see everyone having so much fun while also raising a good amount of money for such a good cause,” said Chris.

“We had a huge mix of teams taking part and it was certainly a proud day for both Eddy Cooper and myself because it showed just how far we’ve come with Run Free since first setting it up last summer.

“A massive thank you must go to the Finish Line Fund for sponsoring the tournament and also Tesco Extra Southend and their community team for donating all of the refreshments.

“We massively appreciate their support and also want to thank every single one of the volunteers on the day.”
