SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown feels Jason Demetriou's versatility will be a boost for Blues next season.
Demetriou has lined up in mostly in midfield for the Shrimpers in the past two seasons.
But Brown confirmed Demetriou could now revert to his previous role at right-back.
"It depends on Jason’s situation and Rob Howard's as well," said Brown.
"Rob’s attitude is first class and he was out on loan at King’s Lynn last season where he more than excelled.
"Will he have enough in the locker to get ahead of Jason? I don’t know.
"In which case Jason will probably be my first right-back but having him on the field of play is the main thing because his experience will be invaluable.
"Whether that’s right-back, right midfield or central midfield I think he can have an affect.
