SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown insists he has been left with some tough decisions to make following Tuesday night's 2-0 win at Great Wakering Rovers.

Matt Dennis, Deon Moore, Will Atkinson, Hamzad Kargbo and Yasin Ben El-Mhanni all lined up as trialists for Blues at Burroughs Park.

And Brown was pleased with how they all performed.

"Every one one of the trialists impressed," said Brown.

"They showed a good attitude and mentality and showed they wanted to be here with us next year.

"I’ve got some big decisions to make because I’ve not got much of a budget left to spend.

"But I want to have a look at them in a better game if that’s not being disrespectful to Wakering.

"I’ll look at them against West Ham on Friday and possibly Maidstone on Saturday and make decisions on them after that."

The trialists all played 45 minutes each as Blues beat Wakering 2-0.

And Brown was happy with his side's first pre-season friendly of the summer.

"It was a good work-out," said Brown.

"I spoke to their manager before the game and he said they had six or seven games under their belts already so match-fitness you would expect them to be fitter than us.

"But I didn’t think that was the case.

"We had two lots of 45 minutes and it was a good work-out for everybody.
