SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown heaped praise on trialist goalkeeper Emmanuel Idem following this afternoon's 2-0 win against Harlow Town.

The former Derby County shot-stopper played the full 90 minutes at Boots & Laces.

And Brown was pleased with how the 22-year-old performed.

"The keeper did well and he’s got a size and stature about him," said Brown.

"I’m still deeply concerned about Steve Arnold and his family.

"Hopeully they can get through the Covid scenario he’s in at the moment so he can come back in and push for the number one jersey.

"He might be getting nervous when he’s seen we’ve brought in a keeper from Derby and he’s done well today.

"He’s a big lad and he wants to play football.

"He made a couple of saves and commanded his box probably better than Harry (Seaden) did last night.

"Harry would have had more quality against him but there’s lots of things to have a look at."
