SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown is still contemplating bringing Will Atkinson back to Roots Hall.

The midfielder, who remains on trial with Blues, suffered a calf injury during the pre-season friendly with West Ham United last month.

But Brown has not ruled out signing the 32-year-old for a second time.

“Will has been with us for treatment all the way through since his injury and hopefully he will be back on the training ground on Monday,” said Brown.

“He’s desperate for a contract and I haven’t ruled that out yet.”

Atkinson made 173 appearances during his first spell with the Shrimpers which ended in 2017.
