SOUTHEND United have completed the loan signing of QPR striker Hamzad Kargbo.

The 19-year-old has joined Blues on an initial month long deal.

And Shrimpers boss Phil Brown is pleased to have the towering forward on board,

"I spoke to Les Ferdinand and Ricky [Duncan] spoke to Chris Ramsey and both of them were interested in the project in the same way that we were, "said Brown.

"They want to give Hamzad some game time on the field of play in men’s football.

"He’s 19-years-old and he’s a giant for 19, but he’s a baby at the same time because he’s only a young lad.

"Hopefully with the type of coaching that we can give him he can only improve.

"If he goes back to QPR a better player then we’ve done our jobs.

"But he wants to come in, enjoy his football and get some game time which we’ve offered him."

Kargbo has been with Blues throughout pre-season and is eager to make the most of his opportunity.

"Going on loan is always something that I’ve looked at and wanted to do," said Kargbo.

"To get the opportunity at Southend, a good club, at a young age is really good.

"The way I’m built and how tall I am most of the time I’ll be holding up the play and bringing in the other players around me, setting them off but sometimes I can get on the turn and take a shot.

"Getting this experience in two years’ time wouldn’t probably be the best so I really wanted to get out and play some games at this stage in my career."

The deal is subject to FA clearance.
