JAMES Scogings feels Westcliff will be looking to build on a promising start to the season when they head to Barnstaple tomorrow.

Westcliff were beaten 29-25 by Dings Crusaders on the opening day of the National Two South campaign.

But Scogings was encouraged by the performance.

“Dings was a promising start for us,” said Scogings.

“It showed that even after a long period out of it we can still produce some good, effective rugby which we will look to build on and improve throughout the season.”

That will quest will continue at Barnstaple this weekend.

But Scogings feels the hosts will be determined to succeed.

“I believe that Barnstable will have a point to prove, especially in front of a home crowd,” said Scogings.

“In our previous encounter we played them off the park and showed that we were more than capable of stepping up into this league.

“I’m very much looking forward to the game.”

And Scogings also relished finally returning to action last weekend.

“It was great to finally be given the go ahead after such a long period away from it,” said Scogings.

“You don’t realise how much you miss the banter at training, seeing old faces at the club on game day and everything that comes with it. It has been long overdue.”

But Westcliff’s aspirations still remain the same.

“Ideally we can continue bringing through more young talent into the ranks as well as strengthening the aspects of our game that made us a threat from the previous season,” added Scogings.
