ANOTHER Southend United fans has his say.

Let’s not beat about the bush here – we all know exactly where the problem lies at Southend United - the ridiculous Fossetts Farm stadium plan.

The total focus for the past however many years has been the new stadium. The obsession has let our club go down the tubes!

There have been rows with the council, the withdrawal of Sainsbury’s, numerous, planning applications.

Let’s be honest and clear about this – does Ron Martin think that if he builds a 22,000-seater stadium it’s going to be full every week?

Look at Colchester United - 3,000 fans at Layer Road: built a new 12,500-seater stadium (in a far more accessible location) and still only get 3,000 crowds!

Ron Martin is in cloud cuckoo land if he thinks Southend United are going to start getting 22,000 fans through the gate to watch the current dross.

The demographic of fans in the borough simply does not exist!

The best solution would be for Ron to forget this pathetic new stadium, put in plans for housing, not retail, residential housing on the entire Fossetts Farm site.

The Government wants 23,500 residential units in Southend by 2040. Fossetts Farm is ideal for that.

Roots Hall currently holds a 12,500 crowd.

We get average 5,000 per game.

So that proves we don’t need a new stadium.

The only time I remember Roots Hall being “full” was when Man U came to town with Ronaldo, Rooney etc.

Ron needs to see sense on this matter, before it’s too late!
