SOUTHEND United are now searching for their seventh manager since Phil Brown was dismissed first time around back in January 2018.

Here is a look at the six Blues bosses.

CHRIS POWELL

(Jan 2018 – Mar 2019)

Win percentage 36.36

Powell returned to Roots Hall as manager in January 2018 and made a brilliant start, winning four of his first five games in charge.

Powell took Blues from just above the relegation zone to a 10th placed finish but struggled to build on that progress the following season.

He was dismissed in March 2019 after going 11 games without a win.

KEVIN BOND

(Apr 2019 – Sep 2019)

Win percentage: 20

Bond took over from Powell in April 2019 and kept the Shrimpers in League One courtesy of a memorable win against Sunderland on the last game of the season.

But Bond started the next campaign with six successive league defeats and was sacked after a miserable 2-0 defeat at Leyton Orient in the EFL Trophy.

GARY WADDOCK

(Sep 2019 – Oct 2019)

Win percentage: 11.11

Waddock was next in line at Roots Hall and enjoyed a strangely long spell as caretaker manager.

Waddock was a popular figure with the players but was undermined by having perspective managers watching from the stands.

He won just one of his nine games in charge and lost his final game 7-1 against Doncaster Rovers at Roots Hall.

SOL CAMPBELL

(Oct 2019 – June 2020)

Win percentage: 17.39

The former England defender was appointed as Blues boss in October 2019 but soon became frustrated by how the club was run.

Campbell could not stop the Shrimpers being relegated from League One and won four of his 23 matches before the season was cut short by the coronavirus pandemic.

It came as no surprise when he left the club in June 2020.

MARK MOLESLEY

(Aug 2020 – Apr 2021)

Win percentage: 17.77

Molesley was named as Blues boss in August 2020 after a successful spell in charge of Weymouth.

He had to contend with a transfer embargo during his first few months in charge and could not lead the Shrimpers away from the League Two drop zone.

He won eight of his 45 games before being dismissed in April.

PHIL BROWN

(Apr 2021 – Oct 2021)

Win percentage: 25

Brown returned for the final six games of the season but by then the damage had already been done as Blues’ 101 year long spell in the Football League came to an end.

The Shrimpers also struggled at the start of the National League season, winning two of their first 10 games before Brown was dismissed following a 4-0 defeat to Chesterfield.
