BOWERS & Pitsea skipper James White was proud to lead his side to a ‘special’ 2-1 win against Aldershot at the Len Salmon Stadium.

Isthmian League Bowers shocked their National League visitors to work their way through to the first round of the FA Cup for the first time in their history.

And White was delighted by the win.

“The FA Cup is the biggest cup ever for me,” said the defender.

“We’ve done it a couple of times before with Dover and Concord but to do it with this group of lads is really, really special.

“Smallsy (manager Rob Small) had a clear idea of how we wanted to play and what to expect.

“It really worked out for us in the end and it’s a win we’ll always remember.”

Bowers took the lead just before the break with Lewis Manor scoring from the penalty spot.

But Aldershot, who are managed by ex Southend United boss Mark Molesley, equalised in the 72nd minute courtesy of an deflected effort from George Fowler.

However, 10 minutes from time, Bowers bagged the winner with Quentin Monville netting a well-taken chip.

The win sparked wild celebrations before the squad regrouped on Sunday afternoon for the first round draw, which saw Bowers get Lincoln City away.

And White is already looking forward to the game.

“We were one of the last ones out in the draw but we’re really happy with Lincoln and it’s a massive club,” said White.

“It’s a good atmosphere up there and we followed them when Danny and Nicky Cowley were there.

“They transformed the club and it will be a good game.

“It’s obviously going to be tough but we will go into it looking to do what we can do.”
