KEVIN Maher has been appointed head coach at Southend United.
Maher, who made 455 appearances as a player for the Shrimpers, has signed a deal until the end of the 2023/24 season.
And the 44-year-old is thrilled to have returned to Roots Hall.
“I’m absolutely delighted," said Maher.
"I can’t wait to get started and hopefully help the club start moving in the right direction. It’s going to take time.
"It’s been a difficult time for the club in the last few years, but everyone is now pulling in the right direction and we want to bring success back."
Former Barnet boss Darren Currie has been named assistant head coach while Mark Bentley, an ex Shrimpers team-mate of Maher, has been appointed first team coach.
