WESTCLIFF’S winless start to the National Two South season continued with an 89-0 defeat against Old Albanians.
The heavy home setback kept Westcliff bottom of the table and frustrated first team manager Rick Compton.
“It was another challenging afternoon from which few positives could be taken,” said Compton.
“It’s fair to say that the break week and the opportunity to rest, recover and regroup is very welcome.”
Westcliff had narrowly but deservedly won the most recent fixture between the sides away at St Albans a week before the first lockdown.
But on this occasion the contrast was stark, and it was apparent from the outset that the visitors were a proposition that the hosts were not going to be able to contain.
They took full control from the outset and though initially they had to be patient relentless pressure produced seven converted tries in the opening half and a 49-0 lead at the break.
The second half offered little respite and six further tries were scored of which five were converted.
There were short periods where the hosts threatened to score and on occasion come close, but they were ultimately frustrated.
Westcliff have now suffered nine defeats in succession.
