SOUTHEND United midfielder James Dunne is keen for Blues to become more difficult to break down.

The Shrimpers, who host Woking at Roots Hall this weekend, have kept just three clean sheets so far this season.

And Dunne is determined for that to change as Kevin Maher’s side bid to work their way up away from the National League drop zone.

“We’ve been shipping too many goals as a team,” said Dunne.

“It seems to be if they score one, they score two or three in the last three or four weeks other than in the Dover game.

“We concede then concede quickly again and we need to get that out of our game and start concentrating on clean sheets again.

“On Saturday we went 1-0 up and conceded two goals in five minutes or so after that which made it an uphill battle to get back in the game which was obviously disappointing.

“We need to cut out the goals we’re conceding and hopefully the season will turn for us.

But Dunne also wants to see more from Blues in other areas.

“We need to start penning teams in, especially at home,” said Dunne.

“It seems like when we do it we don’t sustain it but when we’ve played teams and they’ve had us penned in, we don’t get out.”

The Shrimpers will be keen to avoid that happening against Woking on Saturday.

But Dunne is expecting another tough test.

“Woking are not a bad team,” said the midfielder.

“They’ve got some good players and it will be a tough game.

“But we’re at home and we need to take advantage of that and hopefully get the win.”
