CANVEY Island picked up their 12th consecutive victory on Tuesday night, as they edged past Basildon United as 2-1 victors in the Isthmian North.

Matthew Price opened the scoring four minutes in, and their one goal lead stayed in tact until the 66th minute; Fahad Nyanja levelled the game as he converted for Jonny Fowell’s side.

However, Brad Wellmen’s Gulls were not to be denied a six point cushion at the top of the eighth tier standings, Evans Kouassi scored the winner 13 minutes from time to give his side breathing space at the top of the table.

The Bees’ defeat saw them remain in 17th place.

Elsewhere, in the Isthmian Premier, Bowers and Pitsea were beaten 2-0 away against Potters Bar Town.

In a comfortable evening for the hosts, they opened the scoring moments before the conclusion of the first half, Samson Esan on target.

And they were given a glorious chance to double their lead in the 66th minute, however Ben Ward-Cochrane saw his penalty saved by Mitchell Beeney.

Ward-Cochrane was not to be denied though, and he put the game to bed five minutes before its ending, earning Potters Bar all three points.

Bowers remain 17th.
