SOUTHEND United head coach Kevin Maher was delighted to finally give the Shrimpers supporters something to cheer with a 2-1 win at Altrincham.
Blues’ away following was cut to 256 fans after Altrincham had their capacity reduced for the game due to safety concerns.
But Maher was pleased those in attendance could see the Shrimpers pick up their first away win since beating King’s Lynn on the opening day of the season.
“I’m delighted we’ve given them something to cheer at long last,” said Maher.
“Hopefully they’ll have a few drinks on their way home and enjoy the night.
“They’re outstanding and it was great support again, especially when you consider it’s a long journey and the weather as well.
“I’m sure we would taken double if we could.”
And Maher later added on Twitter: “Thank you to all the Blues fans who made the long trip and for those supporters who couldn’t be there but were with us in spirit. That was for you!”
