SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher is keen for Sunday’s clash at Bromley to get the go ahead – despite a positive Covid test in the Shrimpers’ camp.

A number of matches have been called off all across the country due to the coronavirus pandemic.

And Maher insists Blues are doing all they can to stop their Boxing Day match being postponed.

“We’ve had a positive test but we’re still testing everyone and all the protocols are being followed so fingers crossed we’ll be OK,” said Maher.

“We’re dealing with it as it goes along but it’s changing so much for everybody.

“When they’re here we can control the players and how they mix but away from the training ground there’s obviously only so much we can do with how we advise them.

“It’s everywhere at the minute and we are going to have to adapt.”

But Maher will not be putting the squad at risk.

“The safety of the players and their families is paramount but we’ve got a great following going to Bromley and we’d love to play,” said Maher.

“It’s a great tradition of English football and I hope everyone has a safe Christmas with the Boxing Day game to follow on after that.”
