BOXING Day’s proceedings weren’t to repeat themselves as Concord Rangers and Billericay Town went head-to-head at the Aspect Arena this afternoon in National League South.

The two sides clashed just a week ago, with the Beach Boys running out 3-1 victors on the day.

But in this instalment of the Essex Derby, they took a share of the spoils as they played out a 0-0 stalemate.

Despite the scoreline, the game wasn’t devoid of action.

Wyan Reid was sent off shortly after the commencement of the second half for a very poor challenge on Toby Stevenson.

But Chris Search’s side managed to hold on for their first clean sheet in seven matches.

Jody Brown’s Billericay remain at the bottom of the table, with Concord up to 12tb. Elsewhere, on Saturday, Bowers and Pitsea suffered 1-0 defeat away at Hornchurch in the Isthmian Premier.

Micky Parcell scored the game’s only goal 14 minutes into the second half.

And, despite the hosts being reduced to 10 men four minutes from time, Bowers couldn’t find an equaliser against their ninth-placed opposition.

Rob Small’s side remain 17th.

East Thurrock United also fell to defeat, as they were beaten 3-1 by fellow strugglers Cray Wanderers.

The Rocks now sit second from bottom of the seventh tier standings, three points from safety and have lost four of their last five matches.

In the Isthmian North, Canvey Island continued their pursuit for the division’s top spot as they beat Grays Athletic 3-1.

Evans Kouassi, Tobi Tinubu and Odei Martin Sorondo were all on target for the Gulls, but Stowmarket Town’s 5-0 victory prevented Brad Wellmen’s side from regaining the spot at the top of the table.

Hashtag United’s strong form continued as they cruised to 2-0 victory at home against Basildon United.

Luke Hirst struck early in the first half before Jesse Waller-Lassen converted two minutes after the half time break to gain comfortable victory for the Tags.

They now sit just a point from the playoff spots.

To round up the opening action of the New Year, Great Wakering Rovers played out a 1-1 draw at home against Barking.

The point keeps Rovers 17th.
