SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher has confirmed Matt Dennis will be staying with the Shrimpers for the rest of the season.
Dennis’ loan spell from Norwich City was believed to include a January release clause.
But Maher is pleased Dennis – who has scored in his last two games – will be remaining at Roots Hall until May.
“Matty’s with us until the end of the season,” confirmed Maher.
“We spoke to Andy Hughes at Norwich and they’ve been brilliant with us.
“Matt came on against Dorking and showed what he could do.
“He then followed that up with another good finish at Bromley.”
And Dennis’ recent form now means Maher has competition for places in attack.
“Sam Dalby’s in good form and he’s looking fitter and stronger,” said Maher.
“He’s getting in the box more often and obviously Rhys Murphy is a goalscorer.
“He’s got the majority of our goals this season and to have all three of them competing for places is brilliant.”
