ECHOSPORT talks to Matt Ramsey, a keen supporter of both Weymouth and Southend United, ahead of Saturday’s game.

How much are you looking forward to Saturday?

“As a supporter for both clubs this is a surreal feeling as I never thought I’d see them play against each other in a league match.”

What have you made of Weymouth’s season so far?

“This season there have been some good performances but then individual mistakes or a lack of concentration have led to a goal for the opposition.

“Some questionable tactical decisions have got quite a few Terras fans on Brian Stock’s back and you can often hear certain fans voicing their opinions in a negative way during games.”

Did you fear Weymouth would struggle this season?

“With the clubs in this league it was always going to be a struggle.

“For me Weymouth allowed too many of the core to leave and never replaced them.”

How hopeful are you of Weymouth staying up?

“Due to the demise of Dover and the fact Kings Lynn and Maidenhead are also struggling I will continue to believe both Southend and Weymouth will survive.

“I’m just hoping it doesn’t come down to the game in May as a survival decider, especially as my nine-year-old son Ruben will never talk to me if it sways the way of Southend beating Weymouth.

“We support both clubs but Weymouth are his number one club and Southend are mine.”

Ex Shrimpers Brandon Goodship and Tyler Cordner are now with Weymouth. How have they played this season?

“The games I’ve seen Tyler has performed well but he is constantly under pressure so does tend to have a mistake in him.

“Brandon hasn’t played as much as I feel he should have but looks as if he’s lost a lot of confidence compared to the player he was before he left to join Southend. But for me if he played every game he could easily go on a goalscoring run. He scored against Eastleigh after coming off the bench.”

Who is the dangerman?

“The dangermen are the skipper Josh McQuoid as his experience shines through and he pops up with a goal or two every now then.

“For me Omar Mussa is one of the best midfielders I’ve seen in recent years along with Jake McCarthy and Tom Whelan.

“Omar is one of the best players I’ve seen in the league but I’d be willing to put a bet on that he will be substituted around the 70 minute mark as that seems to happen far too often but Ollie Harfield at left back on his day could also be a handful.”

What’s the team news for the weekend?

“Not too much news to report this week since the Eastleigh game and no new injury news so I don’t expect too much to change from last week.

“But Tom Bearwish and Akheem Rose both scored hat tricks this week for the under 23s so they could play their way into the 11 but Brandon will probably still push his way in and I would presume it would be Tom Solanke to drop out.”
