ZAK Brunt has explained why he opted to spend the rest of the season on loan at Notts County.

Brunt made 10 appearances for Southend United while on loan from Sheffield United.

But the midfielder now believes moving to the Magpies will be best for his career.

“I spoke to the gaffer in pre-season about potentially coming here but we decided it wasn’t the right time,” Brunt told Notts County’s YouTube channel.

“I then went to Southend but it came to my attention Notts were interested and I just thought yes, that’s where I want to go.

“I spoke to the guys at Sheff U and they said to me, do you want to extend your loan at Southend?

“I said I think there’s a better move for me and my career going forward.

“They spoke to the gaffer here and got it done.”

Brunt will now be eager to impress for Notts County, who sit sixth in the National League standings.

And the midfielder has promotion on his mind.

“Southend was brilliant for me, it was my first loan, but coming here I want to get goals and assists and really put my name on things and get my name out there so people start looking,” said Brunt.

“If you can get a promotion on your CV at 20 with some goals and assists then it does well.
